so now i know how this works . and the story continues of the telegrams and the girl of germany . we went to the usa . we landed in new york in the 70's . we went thru coustoms and the officers found mangoes in her suitcase . and they did not like that as they had already asked her if she had any fruit or meat products and she said ' no '. so the dance started and we had lucky feet and walked away from that only to be stopped outside the doors by 2 men in sun glasses and blue blazers and badges . and they asked us if we had been given any thing by any body before we got on the plane and did we pack our suitcase ourselves and all of that . and we said no and yes and it was back and forth for awhile , but we walked out of that one also .

so from flickr to the blog . and just think that i used to send telegrams from india in the 1970's to talk with the world . and at one time i used telegrams to date this german girl when she was in thailand and i wanted her to come to india . and the time that that took and the time and style of that era is gone and here we sit at the keyboard and fashion a new style of talk .

THE STORY OF BONE IN KABUL

SO I MET THIS GUY WHO ARRIVED IN KABUL OUT OF THE BLUE . ON HIS DOCTORS ADVICE HE DID A GEOGRAPHIC . AS USUAL WITH THESE THINGS THE CONSEQUENCES DID NOT TURN OUT AS PLANNED .

SO AS WE WALKED LOOKING FOR STUFF TO EAT ON THE TRAIN RIDE THIS MAN WANTED TO SELL US A CHICKEN

as it was we got other food for the train ride .

THE STREETS OF QUETTA , BALUCHISTAN , 1993, ELECTION TIME

JUST AFTER THE RIDE FROM KARACHI AND BEFORE WE TOOK THE TRAIN TO PESHAWAR BY WAY OF MULTAN AND PINDI WE HAD TO SHOP FOR FOOD FOR THE TRAIN . WE ALSO NEEDED A KNIFE TO CUT THE FRUIT .

drink chai when it is cold and you will feel better

they fix their guns up and stood straight and tall . we drank chai and tried to talk . i came back the next day but they were gone .

when i retire to india i will go back to quetta .

so we drank many cups of chai with milk and sugar and waited for the bus .

now when the bus came we got on and made sure the bags went on the rack on the roof and then we were off to quetta . about 3 or 4 in the afternoon and it left almost on time . so from karachi at three or four it took until 11 a.m. the next day to get to quetta . it was dusty and cold and bumpy and dark and rough and dry .

we were in pakistan for the elections in 1993 . we took the bus from karachi to quetta and after we found a hotel i walked aroud and took some photos .

it was cold at that time and most of the guys were
indoors staying warm . when i walked by they
called to me . we talked , half way at least and then
i took their photo .

From Athens you go to the docks and look for a boat

so as i walked around i noticed that there seemed to areas where the guys pictured here and there friends were in charge and then there were other places where the police or the army were in charge . these guys were kind enough to pose for a picture . they fixed their hair and turbans first and then their mustaches . this was for the elections in pakistan in the early 90's .
